Message Filters - UGAMail gives the user the ability to create and define additional mail filters based on many parameters.
For Message Filters and other tools to function properly, your JUNK MAIL FILTER must be enabled, so begin by turning your JUNK MAIL FILTER "on." Instructions are located at : http://www.ugamail.uga.edu/junkm.html
Contact the EITS Helpdesk for additional help. http://www.eitshelpdesk.uga.edu
You should plan to check the contents of your JUNK MAIL FOLDER regularly.
No filtering system is perfect, and legitimate emails will sometimes end up in your JUNK MAIL FOLDER.

Example 1
Problem: You're getting a lot of SPAM and Junk Mail that is making it through the JUNK MAIL FILTER.
Email with a UCE Score over "50" is sent to the Junk Mail folder by the Junk Mail Filter. Obviously there is a lot of junk mail that has a UCE score under "50."
Solution: Create a MAIL FILTER to send emails with a UCE Score of "35" or more to your JUNK MAIL FOLDER.
Note: Since your SAFE SENDERS LIST is not protected from being affected by any filter that you personally create, we will add a condition to the filter so that senders on your Safe Senders List will not be affected by this filter.
To create this message filter:
From the Options pages (UGAMail Webmail) click Message Filters. Result: The Message Filters page displays. If you have existing filters, their order and profile displays at the top; you may have to scroll down to reach the Filter Conditions - Add New Filter area. |

In the Filter Conditions - Add New Filter area specify the parameters for your new filter.
| 1. |
The first radio button sets an initial parameter for the conditions you must specify.
OPTIONS: If all of these conditions are met OR If any of these conditions are met
SELECT If all of these conditions are met.
|
| 2. |
The parameter drop down list directs the filter to search the specified field or attachment.
OPTIONS under the first pull-down menu:
-

-

OPTIONS under the second pull-down window:

-
is more than:
|
|
SELECT "X-Junkmail-SafeSenderslist"
from the first pull-down menu |
SELECT "Does not contain"
from the second pull-down menu |
Enter:
|
SELECT "UCE (Junkmail score)"
from the first pull-down menu |
SELECT "Is greater than"
from the second pull-down menu |
|
The form allows you to list up to four items. Since we selected "If all of these conditions are met" from the first option, both of the conditons must be true in order for the filter action to take place.
|
| 3. |
Under the FILTER ACTIONS
section of the form, you will specify what action to take on messages that match the criteria you specified in
the FILTER CONDITIONS area.
OPTIONS in the FILTER ACTIONS area:
SELECT Move to: and from the pulldown menu SELECT JUNK MAIL .
|
| 4. |
Select the check box beside "DO NOT
APPLY ANY MORE FILTERS TO THIS MESSAGE IF ACTION IS TAKEN." |
The filter is now set to move any messages that are not on your Safe Sender List that have a UCE score of greater than 35 to the JUNK MAIL FOLDER automatically.
