1. How do I determine where my profile is stored?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
- Select Server Settings.
- In the Server Settings window (right hand panel), locate the
Local Directory text box.
Note: To easily go to this directory, select the entire directory
path and press Ctrl+C to copy it. Now open Internet Explorer and
paste the directory information into the address bar.

2. How do I import my Netscape Communicator 4.x Address
Book entries?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Choose Tools, Import.
- Click the radio button for ‘Address Books”and click the Next
button.
- Select ‘Communicator 4.x’ and click Next.
- A dialog box will be displayed allowing you to locate and specify
the address book you wish to import. The default filename is pab.na2
and is stored in your Netscape 4.x profile directory.
- Click Open, select Home or Work and click Next.
- The address book entries will import into the Netscape 7 Address
Book.
- Click Finish.

3. How do I configure Netscape to use the UGA LDAP
directory service?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Preferences.
- Click on Addressing.
- In the Addressing option window (right hand panel), check the
option for Directory Server
- Click the Edit Directories button to display the LDAP Directory
Servers dialog.
- Click the Add button to display The Directory Server Properties
window.
- Name: = uga
- Hostname: = directory.uga.edu
- Base DN: = o=uga,c=us
- Port number: = 389
- Bind DN: = (is left blank)
- Click OK until you return to the mail screen.

- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.

5. How do I set the time interval for Netscape to check
for new messages?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
- Select Server Settings.
- In the Server Settings window (right hand panel), check the
option for “Check for new messages every ? minutes” and specify
the desired number of minutes.

6. How do I disable the Netscape banner AD that is
displayed each time I start Mail & newsgroups (displayed in the
Message Pane)?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Preferences.
- With the Mail & Newsgroups category selected uncheck the
option on the right hand side “When mail launches, show the start
page in the message area”.

7. How do I set options for handling Deleted messages?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
- Select Server Settings.
- In the Server Settings window (right hand panel), set the desired
option for “When I delete a message:” The choices are Move to
Trash, Mark as Deleted, or Remove immediately.
- You can also specify whether you wish the Inbox to be “Expunged
on Exit” or for the Trash to be “Emptied on Exit.”.

8. How do I specify a folder for Sent mail?
By default, Netscape 7 Mail & Newsgroups is set to save outgoing
messages in a folder named “Sent” on the IMAP server. To check or
change the setting.
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
- Select Copies and Folders.
- In the Copies and Folders Panel, check the option for “Place
a Copy in” and specify the desired folder.

9. How do I refresh the list of folders?
It is possible that you have created a new folder in webmail but
the folder does not appear in Netscape. Follow these steps to subscribe
to the folder.
- Launch Netscape Messenger.
- Select File, Subscribe.
- Netscape should query the server for folders. When the folder
is listed, select it and click the subscribe button.
- Click the OK button to return to the message list.

10. How do I set up Netscape 7 Mail & Newsgroups
to automatically check for new mail on startup?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
- Select Server Settings.
- In the Server Settings window (right hand panel), select “Check
for new mail at startup.”

11. How do I set Netscape 7 Mail & Newsgroups to
simultaneously check all IMAP mail folders for new messages?
This is especially useful if you are using mail filtering.
- Close all Netscape 7 Windows. (Navigator and Mail & Newsgroups)
- Use your Operating System’s Search function to locate the file
‘prefs.js’. You may Find more than one on your system if you have
an earlier version of Netscape Communicator installed or if you
have multiple accounts configured in Mail & Newsgroups.
- Verify you have the correct file by looking at the location
and making sure it is the ‘prefs.js’ assocaited with the profile
for which you are setting the option.
- Edit the file and add the following line to the bottom of the
file. Select the line below and press Ctrl+C to copy the line.
In Windows, right-click the file and choose Edit.
user_pref("mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new", true);
- Press Ctrl+V to paste the line at the bottom of the file.
- Choose File, Save to save the file with the added line.
- Close the file.

12. How do I create a signature file?
- Create the signature file on your system using a editor and
make sure you save it as ASCII (Plain Text).
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Select Edit, Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
- On the Account Settings Pane, check the option for “Attach this
signature”.
- Click the choose button and select the desired text file created
in Step 1 above.
- When you compose a new message the signature will automatically
be copied into the compose window.

13. How do I start Netscape 7 Mail & Newsgroups
using a specific Profile?
- Create a shortcut to the Netscape program on the desktop.
- Right-click the shortcut icon and choose Properties.
- Noe the target line, "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
7\Netscp.exe" -mail
- Add -p "ProfileName" (including the dash) . The complete
target line should now read as follows,
"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -mail
-p "ProfileName"

- Click Edit , Preferences to open the Preferences window.
- Select Appearance.
- Under the Appearance settings, select Mail & Newsgroups

on the toolbar.
- Locate the desired file in the directory window. Select the
file and click Open.

17. How do I add an individual entry to my addressbook?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Go to the “Window” menu and choose “Address Book”.
- Click the “New Card” button on the toolbar and fill in the information.
Minimially, you probably want to complete the name, nickname and
e-mail address fields.

18. How do I add a distribution list to my addressbook?
- Launch Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups.
- Go to the “Window” menu and choose “Address Book”.
- Click the “New List” button on the toolbar.
- Fill in a name and nickname for the list. Drag entries from
the Address Book Window into the List Window. Or type the desired
addresses.
