IMAP - Outlook 2000(Windows)
UGAMail
------------------------

SSL is a security option for use with the UGAMail system, and we encourage you to use SSL whenever possible. However, problems are being reported with inbound SSL (most notably when automatically copying mail to the Sent Folder). If you experience any problems when sending mail, try disabling the inbound SSL setting.

If you would like to read your mail with Outlook on a Windows system, you will need to follow these instructions to configure it properly. The screen shots are applicable for Outlook version 2000.

Step One

Launch Outlook and pull down the Tools menu, then select Accounts. You should now see the Internet Accounts screen.

Step Two

Click on Add and then Mail. You should now see the Internet Connection Wizard for Your Name screen. Type in your name as you would like for it to appear on your e-mail.

Step Three

Click on Next at the bottom of the panel. It will take you to the Internet Connection Wizard for Internet E-mail Address screen. Type in your e-mail address. This should be your myid@uga.edu

Step Four

Click on Next at the bottom of the panel. It will take you to the Internet Connection Wizard for E-mail Server Names screen. This is an important panel to fill out correctly.

On the line that asks "My incoming mail server is a" select IMAP.

In the text field that reads "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server." type email.uga.edu as shown.

In the final text field that reads "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server." type email.uga.edu as shown.

Step Five

Click on Next at the bottom of the panel. It will take you to the Internet Connection Wizard for Internet Mail Login screen. Type in the user name part of your e-mail address. For security, we recommend un-checking the option to Remember password.

Step Six

Click on Next at the bottom of the panel. It will take you to a screen where you can select your internet connection method. You should select the connection method appropriate for your particular situation.

Step Seven

Click on Next at the bottom of the panel. It will take you to the Internet Connections Wizard for Congratulations screen. Click on Finish.

Step Seven

Click on the Properties button of the Internet Accounts dialog box to get to the Properties dialog box for the newly created account.

Step Eight

On the General tab, you can type in a friendly name for your account, such as Work Email. Otherwise, the account will be listed as email.uga.edu.

Step Nine

On the Advanced tab, check the boxes for Outgoing mail and Incoming Mail "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" box.

Personal Configuration Options

From your menu select Tools and then Options. We recommend that (unless everyone you correspond with has an HTML equipped mail reader) you click on the Mail Format tab. Under Message Format select Plain Text. Then click OK.

Where's my mail?

After Outlook is configured, your e-mail will be displayed in the Outlook Shortcuts icons on the Outlook Bar as shown below.
