IMAP - Outlook Express (Macintosh)
UGAMail
------------------------

SSL is a security option for use with the UGAMail system, and we encourage you to use SSL whenever possible. However, problems are being reported with inbound SSL (most notably when automatically copying mail to the Sent Folder). If you experience any problems when sending mail, try disabling the inbound SSL setting.

If you would like to read your mail with Outlook Express, you will need to follow these instructions to configure it properly.

Step One

Launch Outlook Express and pull down the Tools menu, then select Accounts. You should now see the Accounts screen.

Step Two

Click the New button to create a new e-mail account. The Account Setup Assistant will help you configure the account. Type in your name as you would like for it to appear on your e-mail. Click the triangular arrow in the lower right hand corner of the dialog box to go to the next step.

Step Three

On the Account Setup Assistant for Internet E-Mail Address screen, select the option, "I already have an e-mail address that Iíd like to use" and type in your MyID e-mail address: myid@uga.edu. Click the next arrow.

Step Four

The Account Setup Assistant for E-mail Server Names screen is an important panel to fill out correctly.

On the line that asks "My incoming mail server is a(n)" select IMAP.

In the text field that reads "Incoming mail (POP, IMAP) server." type email.uga.edu.

In the final text field that reads "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server." type email.uga.edu and click the next arrow.

Step Five

On the Account Setup Assistant for Internet Mail Logon screen, type in the user name part of your e-mail address in the Account ID text field. For security purposes, we recommend leaving the password field blank and do not check the Save password option. Click the next arrow.

Step Six

On the Account Setup Assistant for Congratulations screen, type in a friendly name for your account, such as John Doeís UGA Account in the Account name field. Click the Finish button. You will be returned to the Accounts dialog box.

Step 7

In the Accounts dialog box, doubleclick the account you just created. At two places on the current Edit Account, Account Settings window, click on the long box that says "Click here for advanced receiving/sending options". A popup window will appear. Checkmark the box that says "service requires a secure connection (SSL)" and leave everything else unchecked. Then close the little popup window by the close button in its top left. Do this for both Receiving Mail and Sending Mail.

!! WARNING!!
After the UGAmail migration, we received reports that SSL on SMTP was not working for Mac Outlook Express users. Until this problem is resolved, do NOT set SSL for Sending Mail as described in the previous step. Use SSL only for receiving mail, not for sending mail.
!! END WARNING!!

Step 8

For all your new folders to appear in the Folder List, you may need to Subscribe the new folders. To do this:

On the menubar, pull down Window to Main Window to display the Outlook Express window. Select your account and point the arrow in front of it downwards.

Step 9

If there are any folders on the right side that are not in the Folder List on the left side, click in the right side and highlight the ones you want and select the Subscribe icon at the top of the window. You must have the folders listed on the left side if you wish to see their contents.
